TEMPORARY TRAIL CLOSURE FOR CONSTRUCTION

Parks_Trail Closed_Near Bombers_updated 8.24.23

Attention trail users! The trail closure near Bombers Golf and Entertainment has been extended through September.   Barricades and signage are in place to notify users of the closure. For your safety, we kindly ask that you adhere to the closures.

We have taken note of concerns regarding the closure west of the interurban trail due to construction at Bombers Golf & Entertainment and near I-80/35. We have established an alternative bike route that leads north along the interurban trail. Trail users can then turn west at Pioneer Parkway, and head towards Terra Park on the trail along Pioneer Parkway, and then head back down to the regional trail. We are working with the contractors to ensure visible signs are put in place.

𝐖𝐡𝐲 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐥𝐨𝐧𝐠 𝐝𝐞𝐭𝐨𝐮𝐫? In the coming years, 6 independent construction projects will adversely affect the portion of the trail from the existing closure, north up into Terra Park. For the unforeseeable future, the detour route shown on the map will be the most viable way to commute west and stay connected with Terra Park and the trails to the western edge of Johnston.

Numerous hours of coordination have been dedicated to ensuring that the removal and reconstruction of trails occur only once, followed by their replacement. This approach aims to avoid multiple instances of closures and to prevent a fragmented network of temporary routes and closures from persisting in the future.

The detours prioritize the safest long-term routes that are less likely to experience intermittent closures.

After the trail reopens, a temporary pathway made of crushed limestone will be provided. We apologize for any inconvenience this closure period may cause. We thank you for your patience as we strive to enhance the trail experience for users in our community.

We are working with the contractors to ensure visible signs are put in place. If you have concerns, please reach out to the Johnston Parks Department at 515-727-8091 or parks@cityofjohnston.com
