The Johnston-Grimes Metropolitan Fire Department operates out of three fire stations.

Station 37: 200 South James St. in Grimes

Station 38: 10225 NW 62nd Ave. in Johnston

Station 39: 6373 Merle Hay Rd. in Johnston

The districts staffs nine personnel 24 hours a day with minimum staffing of eight. Each station functions as a “jump” crew depending on what calls for service are generated in their respective district. Each Shift (A, B, or C) works 48 hours on duty, 96 hours off duty with seven full-time personnel assigned and two part-time personnel. Each shift has a full-time Lieutenant that oversees the day-to-day operations and training. In addition, one part-time Captain and five part-time Lieutenants who assist management of the stations and part-time personnel.

“Jump” crew response provides for the closest ambulance and next closest engine to respond to medical emergencies. Extrication or Rescue response provides the closest rescue engine (Station 37 or Station 39) and an ambulance from Station 38. Structural fire response provides for two engines and one ladder with a mutual aid ambulance, engine, and change of quarters.
