Kempton Bridge & NW 66th Avenue Improvements - A Polk County project involving the city of Johnston.
Project Update (5/17/18): Weather permitting at approximately 9 a.m. on Monday, May 21, NW 66th Avenue between NW 23rd Street and NW 26th Street will be closed to through traffic. A posted detour will be signed using NW 23rd Street, NW 70th Avenue, and NW 26th Street. To assist with the increase in traffic on NW 70th Avenue at NW 26th Street, temporary traffic signals have been installed. Message boards will be activated on Friday, May 18 to warn motorists of this pending closure and detour. Click here (PDF) to read the updated letter.
This closure will allow NW 66 Ave. to be fully reconstructed between NW 26th Street and NW 23rd Street and is expected to be in place approximately 8 weeks, weather permitting. Motorists should expect delays along the detour route and plan accordingly.
In March of 2018, Polk County anticipates construction to begin on the third and final phase of this project, which will include reconstructing and widening NW 66th Avenue from NW Toni Drive to NW 23rd Street, including the intersection of NW 26th Street.
