The City of Johnston will hold a public hearing on the fiscal year 2021-2022 budget during the City Council meeting on Monday, Mar. 15 at 7 p.m. At the hearing, any resident or taxpayer may present objections to or arguments in favor of the proposed tax rate. After adoption, the Council will publish notice and hold a public hearing on the proposed City budget.
The proposed city tax rate for FY 2022 will not increase from the current year ($10.63). Property tax revenue will increase due to the modest property valuation growth of 3.28% to support community priorities such as public safety (police officer, deputy fire marshal, fire department promotions), communications (communications specialist) and parks/trails (parks maintenance worker). The funds will support the rising cost of employee benefits and risk management expenses.
