The City of Johnston's annual budget is used to project the financial position and align the strategic priorities set by the City Council. A budget report is required to be filed annually with the Polk County Auditor as well as the Iowa Department of Management by March 31.
Prior to the budget filing, the City Council performs a budget development process for the upcoming fiscal year which includes multiple budget work sessions and meetings. Residents and stakeholders are welcome to provide input at these meetings or by contacting City staff and Councilmembers.
For the fiscal year 2021-2022, the City is proposing to keep its property tax rate at $10.63 per $1,000 of valuation. This rate did not change from fiscal year 2020-2021.
