Call 2 Recycle Program

March 23, 2012 (General)

Call 2 Recycle Program

The City of Johnston, Metro Waste Authority and Call2Recycle® have partnered to make convenient battery recycling available to residents in Johnston. The only free rechargeable battery and cell phone collection program in North America, Call2Recycle helps communities recycle household battery and cell phone collection programs.

“The City of Johnston is joining thousands of communities across the country in protecting the environment by providing residents with an environmentally responsible way to safely dispose of used batteries,” said Carl Smith, president and CEO of RBRC, which operates Call2Recycle. “Participating in a battery recycling program is one important way communities can make themselves healthier, safer and more sustainable.”

Residents can drop off batteries at Johnston City Hall, 6221 Merle Hay Road, and Johnston Public Library, 6700 Merle Hay Road, starting March 23, 2012

Rechargeable batteries are a long-lasting, eco-friendly power source for many electronic devices, including laptop computers, cell phones, cordless phones, cordless power tools, Blackberrys and PDAs. Since 1996, 70 million pounds of rechargeable batteries have been collected through Call2Recycle.
