Map of Project Location

This project utilized drop structures to dissipate the high storm water flow rates that were being experienced in the project area.  The drop structures allow water to be outlet at or near the flow line of the channel that the water is to be released into.  A stilling basin was placed at the new outlet to provide additional flow dissipation to reduce or stop the erosion issues at the current outlet.  Bank stabilization was provided through a variety of slope protection methods.  A combination of seeding, sod, and native grasses were utilized in the stabilization of the project.

This project was funded by the Johnston Stormwater Utility, which was implemented in July 2012 to create a dedicated funding source for projects that reduce erosion, protect properties and infrastructure from flooding and to improve water quality within the City of Johnston, for more information on the stormwater utility, visit the stormwater projects page.

Estimated cost:  $202,000
