Economic Development

Smart Growth.  Green Landscape.  Accessible City.  Progressive Thinking.  Friendly People.

Groups of Johnston residents, business owners and people who work here, sat down together last summer and used these words to describe Johnston.  The overarching theme of those talks?  Thriving Community.

We want you to come thrive with us.  Johnston is a growing suburb just north of Des Moines, perfectly situated on Interstate 35/80 where nearly 100,000 vehicles travel through every day.  Of all Des Moines metro cities, Johnston ranks at or near the top when it comes to household income, home value and education attainment.  Here you will find award-winning schools, a tremendous quality of life, safe neighborhoods, and a thriving business community.

In Johnston we utilize financial incentives to begin and sustain improvements in specific economic development districts. While specific incentives will be considered on a development by development basis, they could include tax increment financing, tax abatement, a revolving loan fund, special service districts and other economic incentives. We invite you to learn more about how we stand ready to make your business a thriving success.
