Firefighter/EMT/Paramedic (2 positions)

The cities of Johnston and Grimes are currently accepting applications for a full-time Firefighter/EMT to serve in each community.  Applicants must possess a valid Iowa driver’s license, an Iowa or National Firefighter I certification and one the following Emergency Medical Services certifications to be considered for employment:

  • Johnston position - EMT-B or greater
  • Grimes position - EMT-P or PS within 6 months of hire

Seasonal Public Works Employees
The City of Johnston Public Works Department is seeking seasonal employees to perform a wide variety of tasks associated with the maintenance of city parks, streets, and facilities. Qualified candidates must be 18 years of age or older and possess a valid Iowa drivers license.  Successful completion of a criminal history background check is also required.

  • Positions Available: May - August
  • Work Schedule:  Monday - Friday; Hours vary by department
  • Starting Salary: $9 per hour

Firefighter/EMT/Paramedic (Part-time/Paid-on-call)

The Johnston Fire Department is currently accepting applications for part-time/paid-on-call staff.  The department seeks individuals already possessing Iowa or National Fire certifications and/or EMS certifications, but will train individuals wanting to work in a part-time/paid-on-call role.  Johnston residency is not required, but candidates must live within an acceptable radius of Johnston as assessed by the hiring committee and Fire Chief.
