To assist with the control of animals in the city of Johnston, staff will hold stray animals at the Public Works facility for a period of three days in order to locate the owner(s) before transporting to Animal Rescue League.  Animal Rescue will hold the animal for an additional seven days before arranging to place the animal for adoption. Injured or aggressive animals will be taken directly to the Animal Rescue League. Anyone claiming an animal at the Public Works facility will be charged $50.00, to offset the costs incurred by the city for housing and caring for the animal.  To have an animal released after hours or on the weekends please call the Police Department at 278-2345.
