Water / Sewer Rates

Water Rates

  • Water charges are calculated on the number of gallons of water used as measured by your water meter(s). If you know how many gallons of water you used before moving to Johnston you can get an idea of what your water bill will be.
  • If you were previously billed by cubic feet, multiply the cubic feet amount by 7.4805 ; this calculation will give you the number of gallons used.

Sewer Rates

  • Johnston residents pay sewer fees for the transportation and treatment of waste water.

Within City of Johnston Corporate Limits
Water Rates - Residential and Commerical

  • Up to 1,000 gallons will be charged $5.36 plus $.32 tax (Minimum bill)
  • 1,001 gallons and over will be charged $4.10 per 1,000 gallons, plus tax

Sewer Rates

  • The monthly sewer availability charge is $3.87.
  • The sewer usage charge is $3.57 per 1,000 gallons of water used.

Outside City of Johnston Corporate Limits
Water Rates - Residential and Commerical

  • Up to 1,000 gallons will be charged $8.04 plus $0.48 tax (Minimum bill)
  • 1,001 gallons and over will be charged $6.15 per 1,000 gallons, plus tax.

Sewer Rates

  • The monthly sewer availability charge is $5.81.
  • The sewer usage charge is $5.36 per 1,000 gallons gallons of water used.

Commercial customers, except apartment buildings, pay a 6% tax on their sewer usage.

Irrigation Rates

Customers may install an irrigation meter to measure water that does not enter the sanitary sewer system (for example, lawn irrigation or filling a swimming pool). Sewer charges are not applied to water measured on an irrigation meter.

  • Charged at a rate of $5.12 per 1,000 gallons, plus tax.

Information for Contractors / Plumbers

  • Plumbers are required to be licensed with the City of Johnston. Apply at the Building Department, Johnston City Hall, 6221 Merle Hay Road.
  • Inspections need to be called in with no less than a 4-hour notice. Please call Public Works at 278-0822. The earlier you call, the more options for times you will receive.
  • Plans and blue prints are available at Public Works, 6400 NW Beaver Drive.

Other Meter Information

  • Hydrant meter information and applications can be obtained by calling Public Works, 278-0822.
  • Water pressure, noisy meters, leaks and any maintenance calls should be directed to Public Works at 278-0822.
