Chief Bill Vaughn

Chief Bill VaughnChief Vaughn has over 30 years of law enforcement experience, having been responsible for all aspects of public law enforcement operations. As chief, Vaughn is responsible for setting direction for the department and managing the department staff, including 22 sworn officers.

 


Lieutenant Lynn Aswegan

Lt. Aswegan began his law enforcement career in 1986. He is the department's lead investigator, coordinates department training and is responsible for setting special operations for the department. Voicemail for Lt. Aswegan can be left at (515) 252-1363.


Sergeant Mike Martin

Sgt. Martin began his law enforcement career in 1978 with the Decatur County Sheriff's Office.  Sgt. Martin has been with the Johnston Police Department since 1988.  Sgt. Sergeant Craig Porter

Sgt. Porter commands the midnight shift and has over 32 years of law enforcement experience. He is a Drug Recognition Expert (DRE) and an instructor for Drug Impairment Training for Educational Professionals (DITEP) which is utilized by many other agencies. Sergeant Eric Spring

Sgt. Spring commands the afternoon shift. He began his law enforcement career at the Lucas County Sheriff's Office where he became a certified ASP Instructor. He joined the Johnston Police Department in December 2003. Sgt. Spring is a Certified Less Lethal/Extended Impact Instructor (Beanbag) and the Field Training Supervisor for the Department. Sgt. Officer Joe Siembieda

Officer Siembieda began his law enforcement career in 1990 as a reserve officer.  He worked part-time in 1991 and started full-time in 1992. He is one of three Johnston officers that have been trained on the Strategic Anti-Felon Team (SAF-T). He is also a Laser Radar Instructor, Arson Investigator, Accident Investigator, and a Firearms Instructor for the department. Voicemail for Officer Siembieda can be left at (515) 252-1365.


Officer Bryan Townes

Officer Townes has 14 years of law enforcement experience. He is the department's drug investigator and is part of the Mid-Iowa Narcotics Unit (MINE). He is also one of the Firearms Training Instructors for the department. Officer Townes can be reached at (515) 270-8233 ext 127.


Officer Rich Kirkeby

Officer Kirkeby has 20 years of law enforcement experience. He is the DARE officer for the department and has taught DARE for eight years. He is also the evidence custodian for the department. Voicemail for Officer Kirkeby can be left at (515) 252-1368.


Officer Scott Richmann

Officer Richmann started his law enforcement career in 1989.  Officer Richmann is a certified clandestine laboratory specialist and is trained in the handling of hazardous material and less than lethal weapons. Voicemail for Officer Richmann can be left at (515) 252-1369.


Officer Matt Stringham

Officer Stringham began his law enforcement career in 1991.  Officer Stringham has an AA degree and will be graduating from Kaplan University in July 2009 with a BA degree. He is the department's Defensive Tactics Instructor, Taser Instructor, and ASP baton Instructor. He is also an advanced Accident Investigator. Detective Tyler Tompkins

Detective Tompkins joined the department in 2003.  Detective Tompkins is a Defensive Tactics Instructor as well as a Taser (less-lethal) Instructor.  Detective Tompkins can be reached at (515) 252-1367.


Officer Travis Hamilton

Officer Hamilton began his law enforcement career in 2000.  He started his career with the Boone Police Department and completed the Iowa Law Enforcement Academy in November 2000. He joined the Johnston Police Department in October of 2004, and is currently a Field Training Officer and Drug Recognition Expert for the Department. Officer Jason Gudenkauf

Officer Gudenkauf began his law enforcement career in 1999.   He started his career with the Marshalltown Police Department where he became a certified Field Training Officer. Officer Gudenkauf joined the Johnston Police Department in December 2004 and is currently a Field Training Officer, Firearms Instructor, member of the Bike Patrol Unit and a Certified Rifle Instructor for the Department.  Officer Gudenkauf is also a member of the Suburban Emergency Response Team. Officer Adam Criswell

Officer Samir Dzaferagic

Officer Dzaferagic joined the Johnston Police Department in October 2005 and is a member of the JPD Bike Patrol.  Officer Dzaferagic is a graduate of Grand View College with a degree in criminal justice and minor in sociology.  Officer Dzaferagic is a Collision Investigator and is also the Crime Prevention officer for the department. Officer Kenny Agan

Officer Agan was a Military Police Officer with the US Army from 1987-1996.  Officer Agan began his civilian law enforcement career with the Ankeny Police Department in 1996 and joined the Johnston Police Department in 2006. Officer Agan is currently the School Resource Officer (SRO)for the department and Johnston Schools. Officer Steve Nore

Officer Nore began his career in law enforcement with the Polk City Police Department in 2004. Officer Nore joined the Johnston Police Department in 2006.  Officer Nore is a Field Training Officer (FTO) and a Firearms Instructor and a member of the JPD Bike Patrol.  Voicemail can be left for Officer Nore at (515) 334-2341.


Officer Dan Steck

Officer Steck began his law enforcement career in 1995 with the Fort Dodge Police Department.  Officer Steck is a Crime Scene Technician.  He graduated from ILEA in 1996.  He has 10 years experience as a bicycle patrol officer and was a member of the Fort Dodge Tactical Team for 8 years.  Officer Steck is currently a member of the Johnston Police Department Bicycle Patrol unit. Officer Zach Grandon

Officer Jessica Jensen

Officer Jensen joined the Johnston Police Department in August 2007.  Officer Jensen graduated from the ILEA in December 2007. Officer Jensen served in the United States Marine Corps for five years and holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Public Administration from Upper Iowa University.  Voicemail for Officer Jensen can be left at (515) 252-1378.


Officer Jeremy Christensen

Officer Ryan Hanssen

Officer Hanssen joined the Johnston Police Department in September 2009. Prior to joining the Johnston Police Department, Officer Hannsen worked for the Jewell Police Department.
