The response area covers approximately fifteen (15) square miles, with a population of 17,278 according to the 2010 US Census data. The department provides protection from one fire station at 6015 NW 62nd. Ave., Johnston, with a full-time chief, six full-time firefighters, and a paid-on-call staff of thirty-two. As the Johnston community continues to grow, the call volume for the fire department continues to grow as well. Support from the community is vital to the continued success of ther organization. Individuals interested in assisting the City of Johnston with emergency medical services and/or fire suppression is welcome. Any person, over the age of eighteen (18), who would like to become a paid-on-call firefighter / EMT for the Johnston Fire Department is encouraged to apply.
