Watershed Assessment and Stormwater Management Plan

Dept: Community Development
Projected Start Date: 03/03/2008
Projected Completion Date: 06/30/2009

Project Details

Together with more than 40 other cities in Iowa, the City of Johnston holds a Municipal Separate Storm Sewer System (MS4) permit issued by the Iowa Department of Natural Resources. To maintain compliance with this permit, the City must complete a Watershed Assessment and Stormwater Management Plan/Program.

During 2008-09, Nilles and Associates performed field assessments throughout the city. One of the goals of the work is to study the unique, individual drainage areas in the City of Johnston and determine ways that water quality and water quantity (reducing runoff, increasing infiltration) might be addressed and improved.

Through the results of the watershed assessment and input from the Steering Committee, Nilles Associates created a Stormwater Management Plan for the city.
