Electrical, Plumbing and Mechanical RegistrationThe City of Johnston requires that all electrical, plumbing and mechanical contractors be licensed through the state and registered with the Johnston Building Department. To register, complete a registration form and submit it with verification of your state license to the building department. There is no fee, but registration is required before a trade permit can be issued to a contractor. Code Updates In EffectOn March 16, 2009, the Johnston City Council approved updates to the city building, residential, mechanical, plumbing and electrical building codes, including special provisions. Please note that these changes do include a change in permit fees. A permit is necessary to engage in construction/installation or change to any of the following:
