Community Development is responsible for a wide range of services, including the development and implementation of various long-range plans, reviewing and approving development proposals for new construction, building inspections and code enforcement, and the creation and administration of many capital improvement projects.

City Nearing Completion of Watershed Assessment

watershed/stormwater plan coverThe City of Johnston, with the assistance of Nilles Associates, Inc., Ankeny, Iowa, has completed a city-wide watershed assessment, which includes Beaver Creek and Des Moines River, and their tributaries. For more information and to provide comment, attend a meeting at Johnston City Hall, 6221 Merle Hay Road. The public is invited and encouraged to attend these meetings or provide written comments on the plan.

2009 Comprehensive Plan Update

comp plan iconThe City of Johnston has contracted with Hoisington Koegler Group, Inc. to update the City of Johnston Comprehensive Plan. This year-long process will include evaluation of city services, housing, transportation and more. Public input is requested.
