    Join the Johnston Lions Club for a pancake breakfast from 7:00 to 11:00 a.m. at Johnston Middle School, 6501 NW 62nd Avenue. Johnston Lions Club played an important role in early development of Johnston. The 50th anniversary committee will be present for you to learn about the rich history and events planned.

  2. Free Tree Branch and Tire Disposal

    April 20, 2019, 8:00 AM - 12:00 PM @ Johnston Public Works Facility

    Johnston residents can drop off branches, limbs and passenger vehicle tires at the Public Works Facility, located at 6400 NW Beaver Drive, at no cost. Please bring your ID for proof of residency.

    Branches cannot be larger than 18 inches in diameter. Tree debris will be turned into mulch.

    Tires must be off the rim; limit 4 tires per household.

    Tires from businesses are not accepted.

    Drop-off Hours: Saturday: 8 a.m. to noon

  3. Kite Building Workshop

    Get ready for the 6th Annual Kites on the Green Festival on Saturday, May 4th by attending a free Kite Making Workshop on Saturday, April 6th at Johnston Public Library from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Attendees will receive a free kite-making kit, personal instruction and a chance to test out their new kite.

  4. Pioneer Parkway Trail Concepts - Public Information Meeting

    April 24, 2019, 5:30 PM - 7:00 PM @ Crown Point Community Center

    Since the completion of the Terra Park construction, the City of Johnston prioritized and restarted the discussion to provide better pedestrian/recreational mobility to Terra Park along Pioneer Parkway. In February and March 2019, three trail concepts were developed as potential solutions to provide mobility along Pioneer Parkway.

    You are invited to join us for a public information meeting on Wednesday, April 24, 2019, from 5:30-7:00 p.m. at the Crown Point Community Center located at 6300 Pioneer Parkway in Johnston to discuss this project. The intent of this meeting is to share initial trail concepts with the community and to solicit potential opportunities from your perspective that may exist in the corridor. Representatives from the City and the design team will be present to listen and gather your input.

  5. Free Shred Day

    April 27, 2019, 9:00 AM - 12:00 PM @ Johnston Public Library

    Get rid of your old confidential documents in a safe and secure way at Johnston Public Library’s FREE Shred Day. THE SHREDDER company will be in the Johnston Public Library parking lot, located at 6700 Merle Hay Road on Saturday, April 27 from 9 a.m. to noon for on-site document destruction.

    Please limit material to be shredded to 3 boxes or containers per household that need not be returned. No registration is necessary. This event is sponsored by AARP in conjunction with Money Smart Week.

  6. Drug Take-Back Day

    April 27, 2019, 10:00 AM - 2:00 PM @ Johnston Public Safety Building

    The Johnston Police Department and the Drug Enforcement Administration want to help make homes safe by destroying all expired or unused prescription drugs and over-the-counter medications during a community Drug Take-Back Day on Saturday, April 27.

    Johnston police officers will be at the Public Safety Building, located at 6373 Merle Hay Road in Johnston on Saturday, April 27 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. to take possession of any expired, unused, and unwanted prescription drugs. The purpose of the drop off is to help residents remove potentially dangerous substances from their medicine cabinets by establishing a safe collection site. The service is free and anonymous, no questions will be asked.

    Any solid dosage form of pharmaceutical products such as tablets, capsules, and patches will be accepted. Liquids, needles, sharps, inhalers, syringes, IV solutions and other bio-hazard materials will not be accepted.

  7. Tiny Tot Triathlon

    April 28, 2019, 12:00 PM - 2:00 PM @ Johnston Fire Station 38

    Join us for an afternoon of kid-friendly activities beginning at 1:00 p.m. at Fire Station 38, located at 10225 NW 62nd Avenue in Johnston. Kids in grades K-6 will participate in a run (choose your distance when you check-in), a fireman’s crawl and finish with a mini Polar Plunge - all to support Special Olympics Iowa!

    This event is recreational (not competitive) and encourages kids to get active. Wear athletic clothes and tennis shoes and be sure to bring a swimsuit, towel and a change of clothes for the Polar Plunge. Family members are encouraged to cheer their kid(s) on as they go through the triathlon.
