Crown Point Community Center is available for public rental for business meetings, weddings, and other types of parties and functions.

Crown Point Community Center was donated to the city by Pioneer Hi-Bred International.

Non-Profit groups use the buildings Monday through Thursday, but not on peak days which are Friday through Sunday mornings. 

Non-Profits will be allowed one block of free time per month. Anything above and beyond the one free block will be charged at the regular rental fee rate at the discretion of the Parks Department.

The reservation is not considered complete until the signed rental agreement, rental fee, and security/cleaning deposit are received at the Parks office.

The deposit amount, which is half the total rental fee, is due at the time of reservation, with the remaining balance due no later than 30 days from the rental date.

If the reservation is made less than 30 days from the reservation date, total payment is due within seven (7) days from the date of the reservation.

Buildings are reserved on a first-come, first-serve basis two years in advance with priority given to senior citizen programs, youth activities, and city events.

Reservations should include time for set-up before the event and clean-up after the event.

A Rental Agreement will be mailed or emailed to you. A Special Event Application may be required.
CancellationIf a reservation is canceled at least 30 days prior to the requested date, the deposit will be refunded.  Of the rental fee, less than 50% will be refunded.

If a reservation is canceled with less than 30 days notice, no refund will be given for the rental fee or security/deposit fee.

Cancellations or changes in rental dates or times may be made in person, in writing, via email, or by telephone with the Parks Department.
Use GuidelinesAccess to the facility is during the hours listed on the Rental Agreement.  Building Supervisors are scheduled to unlock/lock the building for events scheduled.

Decorations at Crown Point should be mounted with removable tape only. No tacks, nails, or duct tape is allowed.

Renters are asked to return the room(s) and the building to the specifications of the building supervisor by following the building checklist.

Clean-up involves wiping down the tables, vacuuming, sweeping/mopping the floor, bagging trash and taking it outside to the dumpster, and replacing it with new trash bags.

Contact the building supervisor for assistance with heating/cooling, restroom issues, or any other concerns.
DepositThe refundable security/cleaning deposit is one-half the total rental fee and will be refunded approximately two weeks after the event, less any charges retained for repairing minor damage.

The renter will be notified within five days after the event if there is a problem that would result in the full deposit being retained.
AlcoholGroups may serve beer, wine and champagne at their event until 11 p.m. A Johnston police officer must be present at any time alcohol is served and staff will be scheduled for the event. Hard liquor is not allowed, which means no cash bar is allowed in any of the buildings. The charge for the officer is $60 per hour, with a three-hour minimum.

As a reminder, if you are getting married on the grounds alcohol cannot be served until the officer is present.
Heat/CoolingThe temperature for the building is set at 70 degrees.
CateringCatering services are not restricted
Fundraising EventFor non-profit groups only. Prior written approval from the Park Advisory Board is required. 


 Holiday Rental Policy

  • Both buildings will remain closed on Thanksgiving and the day after, with no rentals allowed.
  • They will remain closed on Christmas Eve Day, Christmas Day and the City recognized holidays associated with Christmas with no rentals allowed.
  • The buildings may be rented on other city-recognized holidays with a minimum four-hour rental. The cost to rent the buildings will also be "double" the normal rental rate on these other holidays. (Ex: New Year's Eve, New Year's Day, Easter, 4th of July, Memorial Day, Labor Day, etc,)

No Smoking Policy
Smoking is not allowed on city property, including buildings or anywhere on the grounds. Guests can smoke inside their car in the parking lot.
