Polk County has begun a rain campaign for the installation of stormwater best management practices to reduce the amount of stormwater runoff from our properties and the improvement of the quality of water in our lakes, streams, and rivers. Throughout Polk County, there is the goal of completing 100 stormwater projects in 2020. How many of these will Johnston residents complete?
The City of Johnston has a homeowner grant program to assist homeowners in the completion of stormwater management projects. Homeowners could be eligible to receive up to $1,250 towards a qualifying project, such as soil quality restoration. Soil quality restoration is the process of decompaction of your yard via deep aeration and adding new organic matter into your yard via compost. Benefits of this practice include healthy soils supporting more full yards, a reduced need for fertilizers to support your lawn, and less irrigation to keep your lawn healthy.
If you’re interested in participating in the grant program, please contact Clayton Ender, City Planner, at 515-727-7763 or by email at firstname.lastname@example.org. Additional information on the grant program can be found at www.cityofjohnston.com/homeownergrants.
