JOHNSTON AWARDED $30,000 PUBLIC ART GRANT

Bravo Grant

The City of Johnston was recently awarded a $30,000 Public Art Grant from Bravo Greater Des Moines.

The grant, awarded through Bravo Greater Des Moines, is funded through a portion of the metro city’s Hotel/Motel tax revenue dedicated to arts and culture. The grant will be used to unveil the community’s first major public art piece at Terra Park.

“Terra Park is nature’s gem within our community and is perfect for our first public art piece,” said Eric Melton, Johnston Public Arts Council City Liaison. “The Johnston Public Arts Council is focused on bringing more public art and culture to our community, and this is the first step. The Council thanks Bravo Greater Des Moines for the grant award as it will make a lasting impact within our community.”

Terra Park is a 200-acre park, located at 6300 Pioneer Parkway and includes many amenities including an amphitheater, community center, and an eight-acre fishing lake surrounded by a great lawn for concerts and community events. As Johnston celebrates their 50th anniversary, this public art piece is something community members can enjoy for years to come. The new art will express a connection with nature and the value, history and aspirations of our community. Residents have an opportunity to purchase a commemorative brick, which will be placed in a patio near the public art by visiting www.cityofjohnston.com/bricks.
