BEARDS BEHIND THE BADGE HELPED RAISE OVER $2,000

The Johnston Police Officers looked a little different this month, but it was all for a good cause. Officers could donate money to grow a beard during the “No-Shave November” campaign. This year the Johnston Police Department raised over $2,000 and proceeds were donated to Youth Homes of MidAmerica to install outdoor recreation/physical fitness equipment.

“This campaign is always a fun way to get officers involved with giving back to the community they serve,” said Police Chief Dennis McDaniel. “Members of the department are not normally allowed to grow facial hair, but the policy is given an exception during November so we can give back. It is always fun to see members compete to see who can grow a better beard. While the beards still had to remain trimmed, members compete to win the “No-Shave November” trophy.”

The best beard behind the badge for 2018 went to Sergeant Kenny Agan. Judges said his beard was colorful and well-trimmed. The department would like to thank members and businesses who donated.

Officers will go back to their normal uniform policy on Saturday, December 1, but they hope the awareness raised during November will make a lasting impact on the health and well-being of children at Youth Homes.
