The City of Johnston is thrilled to tell you about the results of our recent community survey. A total of 636 households completed a survey late last year. The results for the random sample of 636 households have a 95% level of confidence with a precision of at least +/- 3.8%.

The City of Johnston rated at or above the national average in 37 of the 45 areas that were assessed. The areas in which Johnston rated notably higher than the national average (at least 20% or more above) are listed below:
• Overall quality of City services (+32% above national average)
• Customer service received from City employees (+23% above national average)
• Overall cleanliness of City streets (+22% above national average)
• Effectiveness of City communication with the public (+21% above national average)
• Overall feeling of safety in the City (+20% above national average)
• Walking and biking trails in the City (+20% above national average)

We also learned that 90% of residents are satisfied or very satisfied with the overall quality of police protection, 88% are satisfied or very satisfied with the overall quality of fire protection and 84% are satisfied or very satisfied with the maintenance of City parks.

The study reveals that 90% of residents are satisfied or very satisfied with weekly curbside trash collection and 86% are satisfied or very satisfied with the overall cleanliness of City streets.

Eighty-seven percent of Johnston residents are satisfied or very satisfied with the Johnston Public Library and 89% of residents are satisfied with the overall quality of life in the City.

City leaders are evaluating all of the feedback within the survey to better improve Johnston. We learned that we should focus on three specific areas of improvement: traffic flow, the number of city parks and athletic fields, and overall economic development. We thank everyone who took the time to fill out the survey.
