Kempton Bridge & NW 66th Avenue Improvements - A Polk County project involving the city of Johnston.

Project Update: NW Beaver Dr. that is now closed for reconstruction west of the intersection of NW 66th Ave. is now anticipated to re-open on October 23, weather permitting.

The posted detour will be in place throughout this period using Merle Hay Road, NW 62nd Avenue, and NW Beaver Drive south of the NW 66th Ave. intersection. We apologize for any confusion the previous notice may have caused.

Work continues on construction of the new bridge and pavement reconstruction. At this time, both Phase 1 and Phase 2 projects are expected to be open to full traffic by Nov. 22nd, 2017. Click here (PDF) to view the letter.

Please note that traffic patterns will change near the Kempton Bridge reconstruction project.  This may cause delays in the area.  Motorist should follow the directional signing directing them to the new pavement.  This is a project of Polk County, not the City of Johnston. The traffic patterns are expected to be in place through most of the summer. You may email publicworks@polkcountyiowa.gov if you would like to receive construction updates from Polk County on this project.

This phase of the project includes the construction of a recreation trail from the intersection of NW Beaver Drive and NW 66th Avenue to the Neal Smith Trail at the Sycamore Access.

Phase III - The reconstruction of NW 66th Avenue from east of the bridge to NW 26th Street will occur from spring 2018 through fall 2019. The roadway will be open to traffic during construction.
