Iowa Dog Jog - Saturday, September 23
The Iowa Dog Jog is the largest dog-friendly event in the State of Iowa. The event is a primary fundraiser for the Animal Rescue League of Iowa and encourages athletes to fundraise throughout their training. The event will have two distances, a 4K (2 mile) and 2K (1 mile). Following the event there will be a festival atmosphere on the great lawn with a secure "dog park" made from 6 foot fencing. All animals outside this area will be required to be on a 6 foot or shorter leash.

Johnston Maker Day - Sunday, September 24
Join us for Johnston Maker Day Sunday, Sept. 24 from 1-4 p.m. Local makers will showcase robotics, coding, art, music, and more through exhibits, performances, and hands-on activities. Healthiest State Annual Walk/Run - Wednesday, Oct. 4
Join the City of Johnston and local businesses as we walk/run on October 4th. The walk and run begin at 11:30 a.m. We will also have a community health fair featuring healthy lifestyle opportunities at 10:30 a.m. Register for the walk here!
Coffee with a Cop - Friday, October 6
Join the Johnston Police Department and community members on Friday, Oct. 6 from 7:30 to 9 a.m. for Coffee with a Cop. The event is being held at the Food Pantry, located at 5870 Merle Hay Road. This month, the Johnston Police Department is asking for business and community involvement by bringing non-perishable items and the police officers will be there to collect them. Items in need are personal care items and diapers, but others are certainly welcome.
This event is not only a great way to connect with police officers in the community, but also a way to give back to those in in need. Throughout the year, the food pantry helps thousands of families. Your donation is appreciated and the Police Department challenges you to see if we can fill a squad car with the donations.
Mayor's Run for the Trails 5K & 1 Mile Youth Run - Saturday, October 21
Join us for the Mayor’s Run for the Trails 5K and 1-mile youth run on Saturday, Oct. 21. The 5K run will begin at Crown Point, 6300 Pioneer Parkway at 8 a.m. and wind through Terra Park and finish at the Amphitheater. The youth run will begin at 9 a.m. Both races will be timed.
Registration fee includes a long sleeve shirt (Performance blend), post-race refreshments and raffle prizes.
Packet pick-up and late registration will be held on Friday, Oct. 20 from 5-7 p.m. at Heartland Soles (5525 Merle Hay Rd.) or on race morning from 6:30-7:30 a.m.
Race day registration is available for $35 but shirt size is not guaranteed. Shirts are guaranteed to the first 100 participants so we encourage you to register early. Click here to register for the event.
Fishing with a Firefighter
Join the Johnston-Grimes Metropolitan Fire Department on Saturday, Oct. 7 at Terra Lake for a fishing event.
Registration will begin at 9 a.m. at the shelter on the northwest side of the lake. Attendees can fish from 9 to 11 a.m. and are encouraged to stay for lunch with the firefighters to watch the water rescue demonstration.There will also be a raffle prize drawing during lunch so be sure to pick up your raffle ticket when you register.
Lunch will be served from 11 a.m. to noon. Free will donations will be accepted by the Johnston Professional Fire Fighters Local 4835 and used to benefit the community.
