The City of Johnston has more than 35 miles of trails for you to enjoy. A recent survey shows Johnston ranks 20% higher than the national average when it comes to resident satisfaction with the quality of our walking and biking trails.

Water Trails Information

Want to learn more about the future of water trails in Johnston? The Des Moines Area Metropolitan Planning Organization has created a draft plan on 150 miles of the area's creeks and rivers, including Beaver Creek. The draft plan was developed by the MPO on behalf of the Iowa Department of Natural resources.

Johnston Park Facilities

Adventure Ridge Park - West of NW 100th Street on Windsor Parkway

Beaver Creek Natural Resources Area - Accessed through Crown Point, Terra Park and Creekside Park trails

Ceres Lake - Green space and small lake, located north of the Green Meadows Greenbelt

Crosshaven Park - This new park is located in the Crosshaven neighborhood on the city's northwest side. It can be found at the far east side of the development near Beaver Creek. In 2017, a shelter and basketball court will be added to the neighborhood park.

Crown Point Community Center - 6300 Pioneer Parkway - Now renting two years in advance.

Dewey Park - NW 64th Place

Green Meadows Greenbelt - Located between S. Winwood Drive and Columbine Drive

Johnston Commons - On the west side of Merle Hay Road and Northglenn Drive

Lew Clarkson Park (formerly Creekside Park) - NW 54th Avenue

Morningside Park - Morningside Drive, just east of Merle Hay Road

Pointe Vista Park - 9612 Enfield Drive

Prairie Point Crossing - Johnston Drive, east of Merle Hay Road

Providence Point Park - 10325 Catalina Drive

Ray Schleihs Park (formerly NW 55th Ave Park) - East of Merle Hay Road on NW 55th Avenue

Rittgers' Oaks - Corner of Merle Hay Road and NW Beaver Drive

Simpson Barn - 6169 Northglenn Drive, next to Johnston Public Library - We are now renting two years in advance.

Terra Park - 6300 Pioneer Parkway - The city's largest park project, including an amphitheater, fishing pier and eight-acre lake, will be complete and open for events in the fall of 2017.
