The Mayor and City Council reviewed preliminary design concepts for Crown Point Community Center renovation at the work session on Monday, June 5. The future plans include an addition onto the original building's west side, providing an enhanced viewing deck, an enlarged community room and additional meeting space. The renovation will improve the space and better serve our community with our recreation needs.
Additional key improvements include better accessibility throughout the building, user-friendly programming space, more windows and new infrastructure (electrical, HVAC, etc.) to improve energy efficiency.
Renovation efforts will be focused on improving the functionality and aesthetics of the building and surrounding area.
The project will be put out for bid in fall 2023. Once the contractor is chosen, a more comprehensive timeline will be shared.
Crown Point Community Center Closing in January 2024
The Crown Point Community Center is set to temporarily close its doors after Friday, January 19, embarking on an exciting journey of major renovations. Please note that no facility rentals will be available for the entirety of 2024.
For our cherished senior community, meal services will conclude on January 19 unless there’s a delay in the project start date. We are committed to ensuring meals continue for as long as possible during this transitional period. Meals after this date can be received in NW Des Moines or Grimes.
Your patience and understanding are greatly appreciated as we work to enhance the community center for an even better experience in the future.
